Hi a few have asked so I hope you don't mind me sharing this with you all, its all to do with the Mating of Roxy and hopefully answers a few questions.
Roxy so what will happen ?
When she returns on Thursday 23rd June, we will have the exact date she was Mated so this might be out by a day or so, but in 63 Days or 9 Weeks after the mated we can expect the Pups to be born .. that is around the 24th August.
In fact that really is a perfect time to whelp down the litter, as the pups will have time to grow during the end of the summer days in September and Early October before the cold starts to bite in, and at the end of October they will leave Roxy.
Just a mention on Eileen her brothers and sisters and indeed all the other Pups reared by Martyn, anybody who has been to the kennels will tell you, that the Pups all look in top health, full of energy and are very well looked after, but at the same time are allowed to be Pups, I have seen lots of pups being reared and I can truly say hand on heart I am 100% happy to have Martyn rear the Pups.
The Early Stages :
Nothing will seem any different for the first 3 weeks, indeed Roxy can gallop and run around with the other Dogs like normal and will be treated normally, there is no need for anything special food wise, or should she be supplemented in anyway, we have however been quick and experience has been used to ensure her Jabs are all up to date, this will ensure the Pups are covered as best as can be when they are born, after 3 Weeks we should be able to feel the Pups and Roxy who will be weighed all along, should start to gain a bit of weight.
She will be continued to be exercised as being Fit and Healthy will really help her during whelping, and her Diet will be as normal Well Balanced, Martyn is a Food qualified nutritional advisor in case you didn't know, she will also be fully wormed and this will be checked all through her pregnancy, towards the end her food intake will be increased this is normally done by a extra feed, as she will be a bit pressed for space.
Genes : and make up :
Half the Genes come from the Mum and the Dad , and she can have Twins in her litter, but each pup of course will have different make up from the Genes very much like Human Brothers and Sisters, the pups will inherit some of there mothers make up, so when breeding one of the important factors is avoiding breeding from over aggressive, Shy Nervous, Poor Eating Bitches,
But again anybody who has met Roxy will tell you she is none of these things, she is a very Happy girl, no nerves has never been shy or showed any aggression or indeed any negative traits, she has always been a good grubber, and indeed Roxy is one of the Dogs I would always give to anybody who has no experience with dogs, she really is the perfect type of Bitch to breed, from which is partly why I was so keen.
During the Mating Process, the Stud farm would of checked Roxy's levels of Progesterone as they got higher it would tell them its time to mate, and another important factor is Roxy's size she is a strapping perfect 27 Kilo's Lady and this would of not only made the Mating easier, it will also help the Pups, you can and a lot of people do breed from small bitches, but a Bitch like Roxy is what many would call the Ideal Size.
Out cross :
Some Greyhound can intentionally be bred with a In cross this is done to add a trait into a line,
What this is ? Well its having the same Dog/Bitch appear in the Blood Lines, But in Simple Terms a good Out cross is having just a few in crosses in the Lines, it can be a complicated process, and this is why we used a expert, however the Mating with Vic looks is a perfect mix both in terms of Blood Lines and indeed Traits from the Dogs, and it could be a good sign, as in the Blood lines there is a Dog called Dagenham those Local will like that one.
Back again to Traits and Vic and Roxy do lend something into the Mix, Roxy a perfect temperament well until she gets in the Boxes, where she really has so much desire to get out, and if she never picked up a few injuries she would of Won a few opens for sure, but she is rated 100 on Data for a very Good Reason with Vic was as high as 148,
Roxy has quicker times in her 9 A1 Wins that would of won a lot of opens, Roxy when leading never got passed in a Race, so if we can get some of her Early pace, desire and temperament we should have a good start.
Roxy's mother or Dam Matts Mystic, had a litter of 5 first time around, and then 12 in her next litter, Roxy's brother was looking to be a real prospect when tragedy struck, and her Dams Own Mother Wee Amy, has produced some stunning Dogs and Bitches from 19 pups 12 are Open Class, and these include Azayasmodel, a Feature Winner Airforce Frankie along with many other Rated over 100, indeed Roxy Mother was a Open Class Winner herself, and a Saying in Breeding is “Dogs can Skip a Generation” well if we get a skip it could be very interesting indeed, as in the line there have been some fantastic Dogs, Indeed I could go on but following the Dam Line, Wee Amy's Own Mother produced 12 Open Class Runners including 2 Group 3 Dogs .. so for Roxy it really all is in her blood lines and Vic really needs little said about him, 9% of his Pups have gone on to feature in Opens, and Vic is his Father the Great Kinloch Brae Top Rated Son, indeed Vic has 420 Pups racing Kinloch Brae 5605 with Brae having 13% of his pups to feature in Opens, so he is very much looking like a great Sire in the making.
It is in my View and others a Top Mating, so I hope this helps explains and with all these things different people have different views, but this is my understanding and ideas on it, but if you have any questions please ask.
Thanks Andy
